Speed boat hire in Ibiza means nine open boats, twenty to thirty-five knots and one skipper each. Speed on this coast is not about arriving first; it is about how many places you can reach before the light goes.
THREE ROUTES THAT NEED THE SPEED
- West coast in the morning — Cala Bassa and Cala Conta before the day boats arrive, then Es Vedrà with the sun behind it.
- South coast circuit — Cala Jondal, Sa Caleta and Es Cavallet, three anchorages in one afternoon rather than one.
- Formentera sprint — across to Espalmador, a swim, lunch at Ses Illetes and back with hours to spare.

HOW THEY COMPARE
The Chiara 37 is the quickest of the small boats. The Fjord 50 and the Azure 50 give the same speed with a far larger deck. The Von Dutch 40 sits between them on price, and the Nastyia 34 is the cheapest way to get on the water at all.

SPEED COSTS FUEL
A petrol day boat burns between sixty-five and one hundred and thirty litres an hour at pace, and that is charged after the charter rather than included. Cruising at half throttle between anchorages roughly halves it, which is what most skippers will suggest unless you ask otherwise.

Between twenty and thirty-five knots at the top end, depending on the boat. In practice a skipper will cruise well below that, both for comfort and because fuel use climbs sharply at full throttle.
Are they rough in a swell?
An open boat feels more of the sea than a flybridge yacht does. On a windy afternoon the skipper will choose the sheltered side of the island, which on this coast usually means moving from west to south.
Can a speedboat reach Formentera and come back?
Comfortably, in normal summer conditions. The crossing takes well under an hour, which leaves most of the eight hours for anchoring, swimming and lunch.
Is seasickness a problem on a fast boat?
Less than people expect. Movement is quick and short rather than slow and rolling, and most of the day is spent at anchor in a sheltered cove rather than under way.
Can we water-ski or use toys?
Paddleboards, kayaks, Seabobs and jet skis can be added to a charter. Availability depends on the boat, so ask when you enquire rather than on the morning.
